BTEC Level 3 Certificate/Extended Certificate in Applied Science (1 A level equivalent) at Huddersfield New College
The college offers Applied Science options which are equivalent to one, two or three A Levels. All are based around developing an understanding of the fundamentals of science, the work of scientists and the science industries. They are excellent qualifications for students seeking to move on to higher education in a range of science related degree courses, or looking to pursue careers in areas such as hospital laboratory work and health related professions.

The specific range of units covered is dependent on the qualification taken.
The Certificate/Subsidiary Diploma (2yr) in Applied Science is usually taken with 2 other subjects. It provides a science element to a broad programme which might include sport, psychology or health and social care courses. It is not recommended for students who wish to progress to a career in science.
Grade 4 in GCSE Maths and grade C in a GCSE Science subject (other than Core) or a pass in a vocational level 2 Science qualification.

These courses are assessed by coursework and external examinations. Students must complete and pass all of the units in year one of the course in order to progress to year two.
Students have to be organised and disciplined in their approach since coursework deadlines must be rigorously adhered to.
