Football Academy First Extended Certificate Level 2 (Male) at Birmingham Metropolitan College (BMET)

Course description

Our Football Academy is run in association with Kidderminster Harriers Football Club and combines the opportunity to develop your football skills and achieve a recognised sports qualification. You will study in newly refurbished classrooms at Stourbridge College’s Centre of Sporting Excellence, Brintons Field in Kidderminster and will train four times a week on the same pitches as Kidderminster Harriers First Team as well as competing in a number of leagues including the Conference Youth League, the Midweek Floodlit League and British Colleges Sport League. To study at the Football Academy you will need to apply on line and you will also need to take part in football trials as part of your application process.

Course content

Entry requirements

You will need 4 GCSEs at grade D, or 1-2 GCSEs at grade C, or a Level 1 sport qualification with Merit grade. Please note that the offer of a place on the Academy course is also subject to you successfully completing a football trial. You will be sent further details about how to register via the college website for the trials following receipt of your application and interview.

Assessment

You will be assessed through coursework that will involve presentations, posters, reports and training plans. Two units are assessed externally by the exam board through an online test, don’t worry we will prepare you for the test through the use of mock tests and revision classes.

Future opportunities

Students will need to have successfully completed and passed all of the units on the Extended Certificate to progress on to the Level 3 Extended Certificate or Foundation Diploma or alternatively seek employment within the sport and leisure industry.

    • The Centre of Sporting Excellence (CoSE) is based on the outskirts of Kidderminster at Brinton’s Field. This is our specialist facility for sports courses in Kidderminster and the Black Country.

      The facilities include six football pitches, two rugby pitches, a ‘trophy’ pitch, a golf driving range and a strength and conditioning gym spread over 40 acres of land.

      We also have use of partner community sports facilities including local golf, boxing and rugby clubs and the playing fields are also used by Kidderminster Harriers Football Academy.

      The Centre of Sporting Excellence offers a range of Sports Academies which are designed to bridge the gap between community sports and education.

      The unique partnerships mean that students study for sport related academic courses as well as developing their sporting skills with professional, qualified and experienced coaches across all academies with the opportunity to take part in local, regional and national competitions.
