Dance at Hanham Woods Academy

Course description

You will have many opportunities to explore dance in depth and enhance your creative ability, understanding and performance skills as well as opening doors to study dance at higher education. Within AS/A2 Dance you will begin to explore the various styles of professional choreographers. You will work creatively and technically to develop your own personal style of movement and choreography and gain insight into traditional dance styles and their influences on Contemporary-Modern Dance. Although trips, visits and events will be made available to you it will be useful to watch as many dance works/performances as possible and to attend outside clubs/workshops to enhance your own knowledge and understanding.

Unit 1: Dance 1 Understanding Dance 1 hour 30 minutes examination (60 marks)Two sections: A: Structured questions (20 marks) B: Two essay questions (40 marks) Unit 2: Danc2 Choreography and Performance Practical coursework : internally assessed (90 marks)Two sections: A: Solo choreography and performance (60 marks) B: Performance in a duo/trio (30 marks)

Entry requirements

Students should expect to have a Grade B or higher at GCSE level in Dance before taking this course or relevant Dance Experience/training.
