Being able to speak a foreign language well is a pretty inspirational aim. It will support any career you may choose, opening doors and presenting opportunities for employment, experiences and personal development. Studying A-Level Spanish will give you a deeper insight into the Spanish culture and language, as well as a sound basis for further study. Your time studying A-Level Spanish will be challenging and varied. At The Compton, we will enjoy immersing you in the culture of the language, as well as teaching the mechanics. You will expand your knowledge and understanding through a mixture of class teaching, individual and group study, debates, visits, lectures and discussions.

The multicultural society: Immigration, Integration and Racism

Contemporary Social Issues: Wealth and poverty, Law and order and Impact of scientific and technological progress and two of the five cultural topics;

1. A target language-speaking region/community
2. A period of 20th century history from a target language-speaking country/community
3. An author from a target language-speaking country/community
4. A dramatist or poet a target language-speaking country/community
5. A director, architect, musician or painter from a target languagespeaking country/community

Future opportunities

A-Level linguists are rare and highly prized in Britain. The study of a foreign language is an extremely valuable learning process and gives a head start and career advantages in the new European work place. Some opportunities open to competent linguists are; International Business, Commerce & Finance, Education, Civil Service, Translation, Law, Travel and Tourism, Retail, Engineering, ICT and Journalism.

Possible degree courses include Spanish and Politics, Spanish and Linguistics, Hispanic Studies and French and Spanish with Business Studies.
