Sustainable Waste Management Intermediate Apprenticeship Level 2 at City College Plymouth

Course description

As an apprentice you will achieve valuable occupational competence within a sustainable resource management role. You will be employed and your job role will include dealing with customers face-to-face and providing great customer service and advice when needed. The majority of your training/learning will take place within your workplace. On completion of the Apprenticeship you will gain a suite of vocational qualifications (NVQ Level 2 - Energy and Utility Skills) which form part of the Apprenticeship framework - a great start to your career! 

Course content

The NVQ level 2 includes:

  • work with others to improve customer service
  • conforming to efficient working practices in the workplace
  • maintain a healthy and safe working environment for waste management activities
  • working with other people
  • contribute to the sustainability, maintenance and preservation of the environment
  • plus a range of optional units chosen to your individual requirements.

The level 2 certificate includes:

  • how to identify and resolve disagreements
  • understand the principles of the waste/recycling industry
  • understand the principles of identifying and classifying waste
  • understand the duty of care within the waste recycling industry
  • plus a range of optional units chosen to your individual requirements.

Entry requirements

You will be interviewed and undergo a diagnostic test and vocational assessment to assess your suitability for the course. 


You will complete a portfolio for the NVQ and undertake a written exam for the technical certificate.

Future opportunities

On successful completion you may progress to higher level Apprenticeships or courses at the College, or full-time employment.
