Psychology AS/A2 Level at Torpoint Community College

Course description

Psychology is the science of the complexity of the mind which is the source of all thought and behaviour. Psychologists adopt similar approaches to scientists by using human and animal behaviour as a clue to the workings of the mind. So psychologists take behaviour as raw data for testing their theories about how the mind works.

During AS Psychology, the areas studied are memory, attachments, scientific research methods, the physiology of stress, conformity, obedience and abnormal behaviours.

For A2 Psychology sleep and sleep disorders, aggression, eating behaviour, schizophrenia, addictive behaviour and scientific methodology are all studied.

Psychology matches well with most subjects at post-16 but English Literature provides support with the skills of evaluation and essay writing required, Biology to increase understanding of the physiological aspects of the course, Maths for data analysis and English Language which covers some of the same subject content.
