Media Studies at The Sixth Form College Colchester

Course description

This course offers the opportunity to analyse a range of media texts through essays, discussion and reports. There will also be the chance to develop some production skills. An AS in Media Studies provides the opportunity to study a range of texts and could include film, news, magazines, radio, advertising, websites and video games. Production skills will be developed through the creation of a cousework piece such as an advertising campaign for a charity.

The course is assessed through one coursework unit and one written examination. 

Course content

No previous study is expected but a grade C (or 4) in GCSE English or English Language is required. If taken, GCSE Media Studies Grade C or above is required.

The course cannot be taken with AS Film Studies in year 1. 

Entry requirements

No previous study is expected but a grade C in English or English Language is required. If taken GCSE Media Studies grade C is required. This course cannot be taken with Film Studies or Communication and Culture in year 1.
