LIght Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Principles (Vrq) Level 2 IMIAL Diploma at Hertford Regional College

Course description

During the course you will learn and demonstrate practical skills and knowledge relating to vehicle maintenance, service, diagnosis and repair. The programme will give you a head start if you want to gain employment in the motor vehicle industry, for example as a motor vehicle technician or road-side recovery technician. Once in employment you can continue your studies with us to gain an NVQ qualification on a part-time basis.

Course content

This is a one-year programme of vehicle theory and practical work leading to the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) Certificate at level 2.

Intended for individuals who wish to make a career in the vehicle service and repair industry, this course has a high level of practical content and aims to provide training in the skills needed to work in a modern vehicle service workshop.

Entry requirements

  • Have successfully completed the Motor Vehicle IMIAL Level 1 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance
  • Acceptable evidence of attendance at this or another college of above 95%
  • Good tutor reference
  • GCSE Maths and English Grade D or above

Assessment

Technical knowledge is formally assessed by on-line, multiple-choice tests and written phase tests.

Practical competence is assessed by the production of a portfolio of assessed practical tasks carried out under direct observation in the workshop.
 

Financial information

Free to those under 19 on 31st August 2016. If you are 19 or over on 31st August 2016, have been a permanent resident in the EU for the last three years, and are a fee paying new entrant you will pay £1500 tuition fee (this was the fee for 2015/16 and could be subject to change for 2016/17). However, fee paying students continuing on the same course for a second year will be charged £1500 tuition fee (this was the fee for 2015/16 and could be subject to change for 2016/17). You will be required to pay an administration fee, exam fees, kit fee, materials fee and an Awarding Body Registration fee if applicable. For these costs please contact our Information Centre.

Future opportunities

Successful completion of this course will gain you the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) Certificate at Level 2 and possible progression to an apprenticeship.

Additional Activities 

As a full time student, you will have the chance to take part in additional activities, including sports, alongside your main programme.  Depending on your prior achievement, you can resit GCSE English and/or Maths. 

What will I need? 

You must provide boots and overalls.  You will be expected to buy a recommended text book.

      Trains: The National Express East Anglia Service provides services from Broxbourne and Cheshunt stations to London Liverpool Street, Tottenham Hale, Waltham Cross, Enfield Lock, Harlow, Sawbridgeworth, Bishop’s Stortford and Stansted.
