Science (Medical), Level 3 Extended Diploma at Abingdon and Witney College

Course description

The Medical Science course will help you acquire the necessary skills, to begin a successful career as a science technician within the medical or scientific environment. It can also be used to move on to Higher Education. You will gain an understanding of the employment opportunities available to science technicians, so that you can progress into a specific area of work. You will learn in a variety of ways including scientific investigations, research projects, visits to working laboratories, project work, group and individual work etc. You will be encouraged to undertake work experience to gain an understanding of how an industrial laboratory operates. This qualification will provide students with the opportunity to specialise in medical science, and associated areas, such as human physiology, medical science techniques in various fields or electronics. You will be assessed throughout the 2 years. These assessments will include formal written assignments, practical tasks, portfolio work, tests etc. There are no exams at the end of the course.


Entry requirements

At least 4 GCSEs grade C or above including Maths and a Science, or a Merit in the Level 2 Diploma in Applied Science. Plus evidence of working at Level 1 in English or Maths. Mature students are encouraged to apply regardless of qualifications and will be accepted based on an acceptable interview.
