D&T Textiles Technology at Wade Deacon High School

Course content

This course will allow you to specialise in designing and making activities delivered through textiles.  You will have the opportunity to complete a   major project in which the focus will be on either ‘fashion and accessories’ or ‘furnishings’.  You will learn about and apply a range of manufacturing processes, techniques and technologies appropriate to your designs.You will have experienced the following areas by the end of the course:Presenting detailed design proposals to a clientDeveloping initial concepts to complete a final outcomeWorking with a range of textile materials to demonstrate individual practical skillsEvaluating your work as you make progress to suggest further improvements to the productThe main purpose of the course is to prepare you for the world of work.  We introduce you to industrial techniques and developing skills in order to communicate ideas effectively to a wide audience.  By recognising past and current design trends you can develop original creative design proposals.  

Assessment

Coursework will account for 60% of your final marks, i.e. Designing 20%, Making 40% and a final written examination will account for a further 40%.
