English Literature A level at The Coopers' Company and Coborn School

Course description

The course aims to encourage students to develop their interest and enjoyment in literary studies through reading widely, independently and critically. It will provide students with an introduction to the traditions of English Literature. It will also introduce students to wider reading which could include English from outside the UK and literature in translation.

Entry requirements

Eight A* to C grades at GCSE (including English and Mathematics). A minimum A grade in English Language or English Literature and grade B in the other. An enthusiasm for reading complex texts is also essential.

Future opportunities

You could take this course with other advanced level courses or equivalent to prepare for higher education in English studies or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to English Literature such as a Teacher, Journalist, Author or Poet. The course will also help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
