Course description

Sociology is the study of society. It to explain how society works and how it affects people’s behaviour. Sociologists look at how people live, how they interact with each other, and how they are affected by social institutions.

The course will allow you to explore different theories and methods which will help you to understand society. It will do this by looking at areas such as: families and households, education, crime and deviance, research methods and beliefs in society. The course requires strong written skills as there is a significant level of essay writing in the assessments.

Entry requirements

No previous study is necessary but a minimum grade C (or 4) in GCSE English Language is required, as well as a minimum grade B (or 5) or above in at least one predominantly written based subject (English, English Language, English Literature, History, Religious Studies or Sociology).
