Philosophy and Ethics – A level at Hitchin Girls School

Course description

The AS Philosophy unit entitled Philosophy &
Religion will cover Ancient Greek Philosophers,
specifically focusing on Plato and Aristotle;
nature of God in Judeo-Christian tradition;
arguments for the existence of God and
Religion and Science.
In the AS Ethics unit, you will study ethical
theories (Kant, Utilitarianism, Absolutism,
Relativism, Situation Ethics, Natural Law) and
Applied Ethics topics (abortion, euthanasia,
fertility treatment, war and peace).
At A2 the Philosophy & Religion unit will cover,
Religious language; Experience and religion;
Nature of God; Life and death and Miracles.
For A2 Ethics unit you will be studying
Metaethics, free will and determinism,
conscience, virtue ethics and applied ethics
topics including, business and environmental
ethics and sexual ethics.
