GCE Art & Design - Fine Art,  A2

Course content

The emphasis in this course is learning by doing.

You will develop important skills with creative thinking, problem solving, and working with a range of materials from painting, printing, observation and expressive abstract work, to working with digital media such as Photography and film editing, and 3D construction and installation

You will be exposed to the work of professional artists around the world through resident artist workshops, working from a wide range of books, local, national and international gallery and cultural city visits.

You will complete a Unit 3 practical unit with written elements in which you are expected to develop a personal investigation, based on an idea, issue, concept or theme leading to a finished final piece or pieces. For the externally set task, you will create ideas in response to one of 7 starting points introduced in February. Your course will end with 15 hours supervised time producing a finished piece or pieces.


Entry requirements

Entry Requirements: At least A*-C in AS Fine Art



Coursework portfolio 50% Sep - Jan

externally set task 50% of final AS grade Feb - May.


Unit 3 personal investigation 50% July - Jan

Unit 4 externally set task 50% Feb - May.
