Construction Level 3 at Peterborough Regional College

Course description

This advanced course is ideal for anyone who wishes to pursue a technical/professional career in the construction industry such as architecture, building design, construction management, building surveying, quantity surveying, property management, land administration, land surveying, town planning, civil
engineering, estimating or building services.

Course content

There are three routes available depending on your future career preference, these are: Level 3 in Construction; Level 3 in Civil Engineering; Level 3 in Building Services. Subjects covered include:
• Construction and the environment
• Construction technology and design
• Surveying
• Building technology
• Graphical detailing
• Measuring, tendering and estimating processes
• Structural mechanics
• Building services control systems
• Building services science
• Further maths
• Hot water heating
• Plumbing technology
• Electrical principles

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade C or above including maths, English and science or other Level 2 qualification in Construction preferably at Merit.

Assessment

The course is assessed by projects, assignments, end tests and some group assessments.

Future opportunities

You could progress on to a HNC or HND in Construction, Civil Engineering or Building Services, or you could study other subjects such as town planning, architecture or surveying. You can also use this qualification to go straight into
employment in a whole range of technical careers.
