Bricklaying Level 1 Diploma at Havering College of Further and Higher Education

Course description

You will attend practical and theory based sessions aimed at building your understanding of the industry. You will cover the following topics:

  • Building Basic Masonry Structures
  • Building Methods and Construction Technology
  • Basic Block Laying Skills
  • Basic Cavity Walling
  • Communication with others
  • Damp Proofing
  • Quantities
  • Health and Safety

If you have not yet achieved a grade C (or above) in GCSE English and maths, you will be required to attend GCSE resit sessions (if you achieved grade D) or functional skills sessions (if you achieved grade E or below).

Entry requirements

At least 2 GCSEs at grade E-G or above (including English and maths)

Assessment

You will be assessed on practical and theoretical assignments throughout the programme and you will also complete an online City and Guilds examination.

Further information

You could progress onto one of our level 2 diplomas in construction or maintenance operations.

Employment opportunities could include entry level positions in bricklaying.
