English Language - GCSE at George Salter Academy

Course description

Those candidates who achieve a GCSE English grade D or below in Year 11 will go on to re-sit English in the summer of Year 12. Students will be given the opportunity to re-sit controlled assessments, where possible, and will receive further guidance in examination units.

Progression routes from this course

There is a growing importance for all candidates in sixth form to have at least a C grade in both English and Mathematics. This is a requirement of all universities and colleges of further education.

Unit 2: The Writers Voice

Unit 3: The Spoken Language

Assessment

Unit 1: Controlled assessment Worth 20% of the overall award

Unit 2: Examination 1 hour 45 minutes Worth 40% of the overall award

Unit 3: Controlled assessment – Speaking and Listening Worth 40% of the overall award
