Level 3 BTECin Performing Arts: Dance at Colne Community School

Course description

This course will prepare a young dancer for various routes into training and work in the Performing Arts Industry. The course includes units in a variety of dance techniques as well as choreography, teaching and business and as such will equip students with a great range of transferable skills.

Past students are now working and studying in a range of areas - BA Dance in the Community at University of East Anglia, Urdang Academy in London and Anglian Ruskin University.

BTEC qualifications are highly vocational and are recognised widely by employers and universities alike. The course aims to develop practical skills that are linked to a series of twelve units of study. Students are given assignments on a half termly basis and each assessment contributes to the final award. Types of assessment include performances, presentations and writing journals.

There is very little written work to be completed as the majority of work is practical. A good level of fitness is vital for this course, due to the practical nature of the programme and we encourage students to take part in extra classes outside of College.

Entry requirements

A keen interest in dance and a good level of physical fitness and dance technique, previoustraining is an advantage.
