Geography - A Level at Bolton St Catherine's Academy
This new specification will excite minds, challenge perceptions and stimulate investigative and analytical skills. A range of human and physical topics are covered, as well as fieldwork opportunities.
The course is designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills and enthusiasm sought by higher education and employers.
There are 3 component’s that will all be assessed separately.
Component 1: Physical Geography : Section A Water and carbon
Cycles: Section B: either Hot desert systems and landscapes or Coastal systems and landscapes or Glacial systems and landscapes Section C: either Hazards or Ecosystems under stress. This section is worth 40%of your total grade.
Component 2: Human Geography : Section A: Global systems and global governance. Section B: Changing places and Section C: either Contemporary urban environments or Population and the environment or Resource security. This section is also worth 40%of your total grade.
Component 3: Geography Fieldwork Investigation : Students complete an I individual investigation which must include data collected in the field. The individual investigation must be based on a question or issue defined and developed by the student relating to any part of the specification content. It must be between 3000 – 4000 words in total. This section is also worth 20 %of your total grade.
