Games Design, Graphics & Social Media BTEC Level 1 Certificate at Sheffield College
This is a one year full time course.
About the course
This course is a broad introduction to creative digital design.
During the course you will make playable 2D video games, practise professional photography skills and also create graphics for the web as well as for clothes such as T-Shirts.
During the year you will also explore enterprise and vocational employment. You’ll create a digital portfolio and be encouraged not only to consider how you can get paid for your work but also how to market your products and services online via social media.
This course is 70% practical and 30% theoretical. You will always work to complete assignments using research, idea development, concept work, final designs and evaluation.
You will study Functional Skills or GCSE in English and Maths if you do not already hold a minimum of Grade C. Many universities and employers ask for a Grade C in both English and Maths.
Equipment and Costs
You are required to pay an annual £35 studio fee. Purchase of some specialist tools and equipment like sketch books and media storage will also be required. This should not exceed £100 p.a. Support with these costs may be available from the college’s Learner Support Fund.
The Design and Visual Arts department is large and well equipped with highly trained staff, a customised print shop, digital and traditional darkrooms, Mac and PC suites, large well-resourced studios, print making facilities and a variety of other resources. Equipment is available to hire. Students can borrow cameras, graphics tablets, laptops and iPads from the stores. From September 2015 students choosing to study at our Hillsborough campus will do so in our new multimillion pound creative centre.
