Mathematics at Neston High School
Having opted in Key Stage 5, (Years 12 & 13), to continue studying Mathematics, students have a number of options to explore.
All students must take the Core Modules:
C1 & C2 in Year 12 and C3 & C4 in Year 13.
The key topics covered by the Core modules are:
Algebra, Trigonometry, Graphs, Logarithms, Binomial expansion, Differentiation and Integration.
Students must then choose add one other module to these two Core modules. Decision – algorithms, linear programming, critical path analysis, route inspection. Statistics – data analysis, population analysis, probability. Mechanics – moments, force, vectors, applications of Mathematics.
All students have a choice of which modules to take and each module is taught by a lead staff member on that topic. Part of the preparatory work provided on Destinations Day is to research these modules to students are able to make an informed choice of their modules in discussion with their Core teacher in the first week or term.
To opt to study A-Level Mathematics at Neston High School, students need to achieve at least a B grade in GCSE Mathematics, and to have passed Edexcel Level 2 or Level 3 Algebra (offered at Key Stage 4).
