A Level: Music at JC6: Hinckley Academy and John Cleveland Sixth Form Centre
Music is a specialised course which allows students to study music conventions and traditions in detail. Practical tasks provide a range of choices to suit the individual strengths of each student. The course is very inclusive and is accessible by students with approximately Grade 4 standard or above on any instrument. There is the option for students who are more technologically-minded to work on iMacs for their coursework, using specialist software.
Studying Music at A level will exercise your creative mind and enhance your skills as a musicain, instrumentalist and composer.
Having taken GCSE Music is highy preferable. If you haven't, you'll need to demonstrate that you have ample theoretical knowledge, musical skill and understand the basics of reading musical notation.
Consider Music if:
- You enjoy examining music in great depth and detail.
- You love expressing yourself through music.
- You want to develop your skills in problem-solving, performing and working with technology.
JC6 general entry requirements, including:
- A good GCSE pass in Music.
- Grade 4 or higher on a musical instrument.
End of year examinations and coursework, assessing musical knowledge and skills in listening, composition, harmony and performance.
Music is an essential qualification for a music degree at university or a specialist performance programme at a music school or college. A qualification in music is highly valued by universities and has often provide desirable for candidates applying for Medicine and Law degrees because of the skills and personal attributes it develops.
