IT & Telecoms Advanced Apprenticeship at West Herts College

Course description

The IT industry develops computer solutions that help businesses and individuals become more successful in their work. IT professionals serve customers in all types of business.

This apprenticeship prepares you for work in a broad range of digital technologies requiring in-depth knowledge and competence in either the IT or Telecoms industries and follows on from the Level 2 Apprenticeship.

Course content

You will have the choice of focusing on either telecoms or IT. Telecoms apprentices will learn customer care, system security, managing software development, and basic IT applications. IT apprentices will study software installation, communication skills and technical fault diagnosis, and gain an IT qualification from a recognised group such as Microsoft or CompTIA.

The qualification is achieved by gaining practical experience at work. You will also be required to achieve Level 2 awards in English, maths and ICT and complete a workbook relating to employment rights and responsibilities.

Entry requirements

Employment at a suitable level - most employers ask for GCSEs in English and maths, but may have additional specific requirements.

Future opportunities

On completion of your apprenticeship you can progress to higher education to continue your studies or join the industry. This apprenticeship can lead to a broad range of IT careers such as software and web developer, desktop support engineer, network planner, database administrator, network engineer or software tester.
