Music (Performing) - BTEC Level 3 at Bolton St Catherine's Academy

Course description

If you are a strong instrumentalist or vocalist with a passion for performing then BTEC Music is the course for you. It is a highly vocational course which will allow you to develop as a performer but also as a technician and event manager.

Course content

Performance is an important component of the course, as 4 out of the 6 units involve performing. In Year 12 students study Solo Performance, Ensemble Performance and a Marketing unit. In Year 13, you will be expected to perform a 20 minute recital on your chosen instrument/voice, fully organise a large-scale music event and undertake research into the music industry. However, if another unit really captures your interest, this can be considered.

Entry requirements

Preferred 9-5 in GCSE Music or Distinction* - Merit in BTEC Music Level 2. The ability to play an instrument or sing is essential.

The course is spread across 6 units of work, all of which are coursework units assessed by the team in school. Your work is then called up by a moderator to be marked again. You will have strict deadlines which must be adhered to.

BTEC Level 3 Music is an excellent stepping stone towards studying music at a Conservatoire or university. It is also a highly regarded academic subject.
