Course description

If you are interested in sport, this course provides the knowledge, skills and experience needed to gain an entry level job in the sports and leisure industry or to progress onto another college course.

Course content

The course includes the study of the following areas:
- Anatomy and physiology for sport
- Planning and leading sports activities
- Outdoor adventurous activities
- Leading outdoor adventurous activities
- Development of personal fitness
- Technical skills and tactical awareness for sport

Entry requirements

Two GCSEs at grade C/D or above, plus a positive Record of Achievement/Progress File.

Assessment

You will be assessed in a variety of ways, including assignments and practical tasks.

Future opportunities

On completion of this course you can progress onto a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport or Public Services. Advice on opportunities for further study will be provided during your course.

The BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Sport can lead to work in a leisure centre or a gym, or in sports coaching. Specialist careers advice will be available from our Advice and Guidance Team throughout your course.

    • Mickleover Sports are based in Derbyshire. The club was formed in 1948 and spent the first 44 years of their existence competing locally in the Derby and District Senior League. In 1993, they joined the Central Midlands Football League Premier Division, gaining promotion to the Supreme Division two years later. They moved up to Northern Counties East League Division One in 1999, and in the 2000-2001 season reached the 4th round of the FA Vase. Their most recent promotion, to the Northern Premier League, occurred at the end of the 2008-2009 season.
