Electronics at The Sixth Form College Colchester

Course description

A study of Electronics will be of interest to many students and of great benefit to any student considering a future in Technology, Engineering or Science. Higher Education and career opportunities in Electronics are plentiful as there is a national shortage of people with design ability in the Electronics/Communication industry. This is especially true today as we live in ‘the digital age’.

The aim of the course is to give students the knowledge and skills to be able to design, build, test and analyse electronic circuits that perform a useful function. The course is a mixture of theory and practical work and the college has well-equipped Electronics laboratory with a wide range of industrial standard elecronics test equipment.

The theory is predominantly based around digital electronics including the programming of microcontrollers and analogue electronics. Assessment is through a combination of examination and practical coursework.

Entry requirements

No Previous study of Electronics is necessary. Grade B (or 5) in GCSE Mathematics is required as well as a grade B in both GCSE Core and Additional Science (or 2 B's in single subject science which must include Physics.)
