Textiles A Level at Clacton County High School
Textiles offers an alternative route to study both design and art in an unusual context. It is suitable for all students who wish to study a creative subject beyond A Level.
The coursework portfolio consists of smaller units of study, covering unusual topics in Year 12 such as corset design, nature and architecture. Year 13 consists of one topic selected by the student, with a written unit to support the project.
Both years end with a practical exam lasting one day for AS students and 3 days at A2. Exam titles can be selected from a list of over 20 options two months before the exam. In this way students can explore their topic in detail and plan what they have decided to make.
This course will suit you if you are creative and artistic, a person who likes exploring new techniques. You will need to be able to experiment with unusual materials and processes and embrace unexpected results.
Essential: A minimum of six GCSEs (grades A*-C) is required, including Maths and English and at least a B grade in one or more of the following subjects Art - Photography – Graphics; or at least a C at Textiles GCSE.
We welcome radical thinkers with energy and enthusiasm who appreciate art beyond the realms of textiles.
