Philosophy and Ethics at Reepham High School and College

Course description

“Are the choices I make in life really choices?”

War is always wrong.”

“Everyone has the right to have a child.”

“Religion is something people make up to help them feel better about the world.”

“There is no place for ethics in business.” Do you have strong opinions on questions like these?

If you do then Philosophy and Ethics could be the subject for you. The course encourages you to think about and question many aspects of life and existence. In Philosophy we examine the nature of human belief in God and religion while in Ethics we study human morality in relation to issues such as environmental, business and sexual ethics. It is a subject that can complement most combinations of courses - in the past pupils have successfully combined it with History, English, Psychology and Sociology.

The course encourages and develops thinking skills, which makes it a valued subject for universities and employers, while the emphasis on ethics means it is incredibly useful in many areas of work including medicine, education, social work and the media
