Chemistry A Level at City of Westminster College
Course description
On this course, we look at Physical, Organic and Inorganic, as well as practical skills. Over the 2 years the students are tested using scientific method (practical skills) and exams. For the AS they have 3 papers unit 1 and 2 are theory papers and unit 3 is a controlled assessment. For the A2 it is further divided into 3 units, 4 and 5 and 6th is practical coursework. Carry out 12 practical throughout the year and make a well documented folder. There are various topics that they will be taught over the 2 year course which will help them to develop scientifically as a chemist
Entry requirements
You should possess at least 6 GCSEs grades A* to C. In particular Grade B in GCSE Maths plus either BB in Core/Additional Science or Grade B in GCSE Chemistry
Assessment
We follow the Edexcle exam board. You will have three practical and two theoretical written examinations at the end of the course. The exam will be under timed conditions
Future opportunities
Most A Level students go on to enjoy a university followed by a related career, however many choose to go directly into industry or enter university later. With the right combination of subjects, this course will lead you into a career into sciences and medicine.
