ESOL - Young Foundation Beginners at Harrow College

Course description

Young 15-18 year old students whose first language is not English, who wish to improve their written and spoken English, to go on to further studies or employment.

Course content

Students will practise all four skills in communication - Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. They will have opportunity to practise communication using ILT. In addition, they will practise number skills and attend a tutorial session each week.They will also develop their language trough topic assignments.

A variety of methods are used including pair work, group work, role play, and the use of information technology.

Entry requirements

No formal qualifications are needed. A student's level of English will be assessed by a written test and an interview at enrolment.


Students will be continually assessed in all four skills throughout their course, during class hours. Where appropriate, students will be offered the opportunity to an exam at the end of their course.

Future opportunities

Progression to Young Foundation Entry 1 course or above depending on how much progress has been made by the student.

Equipment or materials:

Students will be expected to have A4 lined paper, pens and pencils, a ring binder as well as a dictionary.

Additional costs:

Students may be asked to buy a course book as well as writing material.
