Mathematics AS/A2 Level at St Mary's Catholic High School
Students will study six modules covering a mixture of pure mathematics, statistics and mechanics.
The pure mathematics involves a great deal of algebra. It introduces new topics such as calculus, vectors and numerical methods. It also revises old favourites like trigonometry, functions and graph work. A great deal of this work is used within Physics, Chemistry and Biology A levels.
The Statistics involves data analysis, probability, probability distributions and their uses in society.
Mechanics involves investigating static and moving objects using Newton's Laws.
Students need to have followed the Higher Level GCSE and have achieved a grade B or above in GCSE in Mathematics.
A level Mathematics, rewarding in itself, is also a cornerstone to most engineering, scientific and numerate degrees such as Economics and Business Studies.
