Level 3 Children's Play, Learning and Development (Early Years) at Newton Rigg College

Course description

This programme combines academic knowledge and practical skills for those interested in a career working with children or those wishing to progress into teacher training or social work. This qualification prepares you to work unsupervised, with children and their families in a variety of settings. Once completed, you will have Early Years Educator status, necessary for employment. During the course, you will undertake two days per week supported placement in local schools and nurseries.

• Understanding child development • Play in early years settings • Safeguarding of children • Health and safety in a childcare setting • Supporting children’s communication and language • Supporting children’s personal, social and emotional development • Collaboration with parents, colleagues and other professionals • Diet and nutrition for children • Positive environments for children’s care • English and maths provision where applicable

Entry requirements

Usually at least 4 GCSEs at grade C or above to include any 2 from English, Maths and Science with at least a grade D in the remaining subject. Alternatively a suitable level 2 vocational qualification (Merit or above) with English and Maths at Level 2
