BTEC Sport Extended Certificate Level 3 at Towers School and Sixth Form Centre

Course description

The course provides an excellent opportunity for you to combine the theoretical side of sports science with the practical application of that knowledge. The course is a practical, work-related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. It introduces you to the employment area you have chosen and provides a good basis to progress to a more advanced worked related qualification or degree course.

Course Structure:

Year 1

  • Anatomy for Sport and Exercise
  • Sport and Exercise Physiology
  • Sport and Exercise Psychology

Year 2:


  • Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise
  • Sports Injuries
  • Exercise, Health and Lifestyle

Entry requirements

C grade in English or English Literature; B grade in GCSE PE; Merit in BTEC Sport.

The ability to work independently and have a basic knowledge and confidence using ICT.


All units are assessed and graded through completion of coursework and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded (Pass/Merit/Distinction - Equivalency = E/C/A). There are no formal examinations.
