English GCSE at The Meriton Education and Support for young parents

Course description

To develop: confidence in reading, writing and spoken communication qualities of thought which are fundamental to educational and personal growth. a sensitive and personal response to texts.

Course content

Throughout the IGCSE course you will focus on building up your skills in reading, writing and speaking and listening. You will read a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts and learn to understand how writers use language to influence and interest the reader. You will also improve the fluency and technical accuracy of your writing and have the opportunity to take part in discussions, debates and a range of spoken activities. In addition students who study WJEC English Literature will read and respond critically to poetry and drama. Functional Skills Level 1&2 is available when appropriate.

Entry requirements

You will be asked to take a test to establish your level of English

Assessment

You will be assessed :On reading, writing and speaking and listening through coursework, controlled assessment and final exams.
