Science Applied at Durham Gilesgate Sports College

Course description

A-level Applied Science is a vocationally-focused qualification which offers students more opportunities to actively experience the scientific environment through work experience, links with local employers, case studies and research. The course develops and applies appropriate skills, knowledge and understanding. Students learn to appreciate and evaluate the impact that science has on society. Applied Science supports and complements many other A-level qualifications and it is an appropriate course for students wishing to pursue further studies or careers in science.

At AS level, students study three units which consist: Science at work (portfolio), Analysis at Work (portfolio) and Monitoring the Activity of the Human Body (examination).

At A2 level, students study a further three units: Investigating the Scientist’s Work (portfolio), Sampling, Testing and Processing (examination) along with an Optional Module (portfolio).
