AS/A2 Further Mathematics at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Horncastle
Many of our A-level Maths’ students are more than capable of studying extra modules. Those who choose to study extra modules invariably benefit from doing so. A quick glance at students who gain entry to Oxbridge reveals a significant number with a double maths qualification. If you were in one of our top two sets for GCSE you should give some thought to AS level or full A level Further Maths.
Three modules for an AS level, six for the full A level. There is some flexibility in the choice of modules.
In order to take extra modules you must have been a member of one of the top two sets at GCSE and have the support of your Maths teacher. You must also take A level Maths.
Recent changes to the structure of all Maths courses have made them more accessible to many pupils. For example, anyone thinking of reading Engineering at university would be well advised to consider an AS in Further Maths.
In order to study AS Further Maths you must have at least a grade A at GCSE maths and an A* would indicate a better chance of being successful.
If you have any questions regarding this course please see Mr Heathcote or a member of the Maths Department.
If it is your intention to apply to one of the more prestigious Universities for such courses as Engineering, Medicine or Natural Sciences then this additional Maths qualification is seen as being highly desirable.
