A Level Film Studies at Heath Park
WHO IS IT FOR?
A Level Film Studies allows students to develop critical skills in reading media texts, to understand the history and business of cinema and to get to know a wider range of British, Hollywood and World Cinema films as well as to pursue their own particular interests in their favourite genres, stars and directors.
Minimum grade C or above in English.
Coursework is marked internally and moderated by the exam board. AS and A2 year coursework and examination modules are both assessed in the summer.
Film studies is a more academic subject and is not the best route to take if you’re interested in a practical or creative job in the Media industries. You want the Level 3 Cambridge Technicals in Media courses that we offer.CAREER PATHWAYS
A degree in Film Studies equips you for a wide range of graduate job opportunities – as a degree in critical studies, history, culture and textual analysis it stands up with other Arts and Humanities degrees for ‘standard’ graduate entry opportunities (like big companies’ graduate management programs and Civil Service graduate entry courses). On a more subjectspecific basis, it is a good grounding for a role in Media education or for further studies in Art, Media, Literature and Popular Culture as well as specifically in Film. It is probably not the best route to take if you are interested in a practical or creative job in the Media industries.
