Course description

This course is designed to provide a highly specialist work related qualification. Through a balance of classroom experience and work placements, students will learn the necessary skills essential for successful performance when working in the Health & Social Care industry.

Subjects include:

  • Developing effective communication
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Diet in Health and Social Care
  • Sociological perspectives
  • Psychological perspectives.

 

In addition, students will gain a qualification in Essential Skills English and Maths.

Entry requirements

  • 4 GCSEs Grade C or above, including English
  • Level 2 vocational qualification (Merit or Distinction)
  • Level 2 English and/or Maths
  • Successful interview with college staff

Assessment

Course work including written assignments, professional discussions and projects, Work placements and examinations in Essential Skills.

Future opportunities

Internal Progression Year 2: On successful completion of the Subsidiary Diploma students can then progress onto the 1 year BTEC Extended Diploma in Health & Social Care.

Progression: The extended Diploma will lead to a Higher Education degree in Midwifery/Adult Nursing/Mental Health Nursing/Physiotherapy/Radiography/Psychology. Employment in Health & Social Care.
