Textiles A level at Eastbury Comprehensive School

Course description

AS:

Unit 1
Students are required to submit a portfolio of work, which will count for 50% of their AS marks and 25% of their A level. The portfolio of work is marked by the school and moderated by the exam board. You will present your work in a sketchbook learning to work with different Medias and materials. You will produce a textiles product relating to the research you have carried out.

Unit 2

Is an externally set assignment which will count for 50% of the AS marks and 25% of A-level. The assignment will be supervised for 5 hours. The work produced will be marked by the centre and moderated by the exam board. Planning for the exam you will produce a sketchbook relating to an AQA question. In the supervised time you will produce a final Textiles product. 

A2:

Unit 3

Personal investigations, which counts for 25% of the A-Level marks. Students are required to submit a personal investigation supported by a written element of 1,000 – 3,000 words. This unit is marked by the school and moderated by the examination board. It is worth 25% of the A level marks. You will present your work in a sketchbook learning to work with different Medias and materials. You will produce a textiles product relating to the research you have carried out.
Unit 4

Externally set assignment which counts for 25% of the A-Level marks. The assignment is supervised for 15 hour’s work produced is marked by the school and moderated by the exam board. Planning for the exam you will produce a sketchbook relating to an AQA question. In the supervised time you will produce a final Textiles product. 

Entry requirements

AS:

Students are expected to obtain 5 GCSEs at grade C or above including English and Maths. Whilst it is an advantage to have done some creative subject at KS4, it is not compulsory.  Students on this course with natural creative flair are encouraged to take advantage of the Eastbury Creative Curriculum offer with other subjects across 3D, Photography or textiles.

A2:

Students are expected to gain at least an AS grade D to complete A2. Students with grade E, may be considered via interview.   Students on this course with natural creative flair are encouraged to take advantage of the Eastbury Creative Curriculum offer with other subjects across 3D, Photography or textiles.

Assessment

AS:

2 Units of work:
Unit 1 = Coursework portfolio = 50% of final mark.

Unit 2 = Externally set assignment = 50% of final mark.=100% AS level 

A2:

2 Units of work:
Unit 3= Personal Investigation = 25% of final mark.
Unit 4 = Externally set assignment = 25% of final mark.=

50%-AS. 50% =A2

Future opportunities

AS:

Students to continue to A2 level to complete the A level qualification. Students should have the intention of moving up to a foundation diploma after completion of A Level qualification.  

A2:

Students should move onto an art foundation diploma to further their art education. Teachers will help students prepare for interviews with clear questioning techniques and portfolio guidance.  Students will be steered towards open days and university.
