The course will include the study of:

1) Atomic structure

2) Amount of substance

3) Bonding

4) Energetics

5) Kinetics

6) Chemical equilibria and Le Chatelier's principle

7) Oxidation, reduction and redox equations

8) Thermodynamics

9) Rate equations

10) Equilibrium constant Kc for homogeneous systems

11) Electrode potentials and electrochemical cells

12) Acids and bases

Entry requirements

Grade B or above in GCSE Chemistry and Grade 5 or above in GCSE Maths

Assessment

Paper 1: Written exam (2hrs)

Paper 2: Written exam (2hrs)

Paper 3: Written exam (2hrs)

Future opportunities

You could take this course with other advanced level courses, which overlap with Chemistry such as Biology, Applied Science, Physics, Geography, Geology or more general subjects that may not relate to the sciences, to prepare for higher education. With further training, you could go into a job related to Chemistry or one of the other sciences such as a Doctor, Nurse, Scientist or Pharmacist. The course will also help you to develop the basic skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
