Performance Studies A-Level at Tavistock Community College

Course description

The first year of this course is an AS level qualification and consists of 2 units of study. The student may continue to study for a second year in order to gain an A2 qualification. The units studied at AS level are: Creating Performance: students take part in skills workshops in Drama, Dance and Music. They then create and perform their own pieces and take part in a combined arts piece within the community. The unit is assessed via written commentary and by the teacher in terms of the quality of the creation process and the performance skills displayed. Performance Contexts 1: detailed practical and theoretical exploration of the work of 2 practitioners: Lloyd Newson (dance) and John Godber (drama).

Entry requirements

5 A* - C grades including a B grade in the chosen (or appropriate alternative) subject Any singular or combination of Drama GCSE, Dance GCSE, Music GCSE, BTEC Performing Arts: Dance, BTEC Music. Alternative performance qualifications or course, Dance Leaders, Guildhall examinations, RDA qualifications or similar and production experience will also be considered.

Assessment

Creating Performance is assessed via written commentary and by the teacher in terms of the quality of the creation process and the performance skills displayed. Performance Contexts 1 is assessed by written exam in May, 1 question on each practitioner.
