Art and Design Level 2 at Wiltshire College
This course will provide you with opportunities to build up a portfolio of work to progress onto a Level 3 programme. You will gain confidence in the work you produce and develop a broad range of design and digital skills.
You will build on your existing practical skills, art concepts and approaches to ideas development. You will explore a variety of media through project work and assignments that help you find your strengths and broaden your knowledge and interests in the artistic field.
This course will give you increased confidence in the presentation of your art work and enable you to make choices about future specialisation.
The Diploma consists of 6 core units:
- Contextual References in Art and Design
- 2D Visual Communication
- 3D Visual Communication
- Using Ideas to Explore, Develop and produce Art and Design
- Building an Art and Design Portfolio
- Working in the Art and Design Industry
and further units covering:
- Graphic Design
- Visual Arts
- Moving Image
- 4 GCSEs at grade D or above, including Maths or English, or equivalent
- A recent portfolio of work
- A good reference
- A satisfactory interview
You will be expected to continue practising your artistic skills and developing your ideas in sketchbooks outside class sessions.
You will be mainly assessed through coursework. Functional skills in Maths and English are assessed by exam.
The final qualification will be a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design.
Successful completion of this course will enable you to progress to a Level 3 course such as the BTEC Extended Diploma in an Art or Media related subject.
It may lead to entry level jobs in areas such as:
- Graphic design
- Media industry
- Community arts projects
- Surface pattern/textiles
