Dance BTEC Level 3 at Withernsea High School Specialising In Humanities

Course description

The Units:

Performing to an Audience

Dance Performance

Developing Contemporary Dance Technique

Urban Dance

Choreographic Principles

Jazz Dance

These are the current units but there are MANY others that can be tailored to the needs of our students (e.g. Ballet, Tap, Circus, and Site Specific). Each cohort will be different and we respond to this with each group where possible.

Students are embarking upon the BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Performing Arts (Dance). This is a unitised course that uses the Year 11 dance show as a base for the core units of performance. Other units are run alongside each other to allow students skills in different styles to develop holistically. For example, students may have urban dance every Thursday and Contemporary dance every Monday. Under the new QCF guidelines, students will now be assessed in each unit just once.

Future opportunities

Progression from this BTEC is unlimited. Students can attend university to further enhance their skills, become a Professional Dancer in a company or Free-lance. They could transition into any other pathway of the performing arts sector. It is also possible to develop into education with becoming a community dance practitioner or to teach in Primary, Secondary, FE and HE education teaching.
