Progression (Year 1) at Cambridge Regional College
Progression is a full time study programme for young people aged 16-21, which focuses on the four key outcomes of preparation for adulthood:
This is a 1 or 2 year programme. Year 1 includes Independent Living Skills, Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT, and Vocational options which may include Woodwork, Motor Vehicle, Cookery, Sport, Art and Gardening. Students will also study preparation for work units from the AIM Suite of Skills for Employment and Further Learning.
Work experience is a very important aspect of the programme. It is a necessary part of preparation for adult and working life and as such forms an integral part of the course. Placements are carefully chosen, monitored and are arranged at an appropriate time for each student.
It is expected that applicants will have an EHCP or a moderate learning difficulty.
There are no formal entry requirements but students will need to be able to work towards independence/social skills in a mainstream setting at Entry Level 2 or 3. Students should be interested in improving their English, maths and employability skills. Students will be offered taster days and an informal interview prior to being made an offer. In addition to the entry qualifications listed, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be taken at the College as part of the admissions process. Please note that entry criteria may vary quite significantly between courses at the same level. This is to take account of the specific skills needed for success on particular courses, the length of the course and the requirements for progression to the next level. Entry criteria are given as a guide, and the exact requirements in order to obtain a place on a particular course will be confirmed following attendance at a Welcome Event/Interview.
Students will gather a portfolio of evidence for their Study Programme and take FS at an appropriate level.
We are committed to providing financial support to learners where it is available. We would actively encourage you to enquire about possible financial support as soon as you can. Depending on your situation, you may qualify for a contribution towards College costs such as kit, equipment, residential fees, meals, childcare etc. Enquiries can be made to email@example.com
On completion of this programme students can progress on to Supported Internships, an appropriate Vocational course at the College or can find employment. Many learners progress to year 2 of Progression.
