Applied Science at The Heath School

Course description

 A two year course focused on the main disciplines of science; Biology, Chemistry and Physics. There Is a focus on how science impacts the world around us and scientific practical investigation. This course will count as two of your four options.
 

Course content

Unit 1: Principles and Applications of Science I -External exam Unit 2: Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques - internal coursework assignment. Unit 3: Science Investigation Skills - Externally marked coursework assignment. Unit 4: Optional unit - Internal coursework assignment.
 

Assessment

There are 4 units across the two years with a range of exams, 3 of which are mandatory and one optional. Two units are externally assessed and two internally assessed.

Future opportunities

BTEC courses provide UCAS points in the same way as A•Levels do so this will count to your point total if you want to go on to university. You can also apply directly for junior level positions within the science industry e.g. lab technicians.
