Course description

A Level Sociology consists of different social theories and research theories of leading sociologists. You will cover topics of the Family, Education, Crime and Deviance and Beliefs and Society.
 

Course content

Education & Methods: Policies, Achievement, Purpose of Education, Analyse & Evaluate Qualitative & Quantitative methods. Families & Households: Types of Families, Marriage, Divorce, Cohabitation, Childhood & Demography. Beliefs and Society: Theories of Ideology, Religion & Science, Social Change, Religious Organisations, Religion in Contemporary World. Crime & Deviance: Theories of Crime, Media & Crime, Suicide & Crime Prevention.
 

Assessment

Year 1 Education & Methods in context 50% & Research Methods, Families & Households 50%. Two papers 1hr 30mins Year 2: Component 1 Education with Theory & Methods, Component 2 Families & Households, Beliefs and Society and Component 3 Crime & Deviance with Theory & Methods. Each component equals 1/3 of the assessment with each component having a 2hr exam.
 

Future opportunities
