Course description

If you enjoy playing or watching sport, and you’re looking to improve your performance, or want to make a career in sport, then this course is for you. This course will introduce you to a side of the sports industry you may not have experienced before giving you an insight into the little things that make a big performance such as nutrition, psychology, fitness testing, injuries and sponsorship and promotion. You will study topics like fitness testing, practical sports performance and anatomy.

Course content

You will study topics like fitness testing, practical sports performance and anatomy.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry qualifications. However you must have a strong interest in sport and show this at interview. Please note that the offer of a place on the Academy course is also subject to you successfully completing a football trial. You will be sent further details about how to register via the college website for the trials following receipt of your application and interview.

Assessment

You will be assessed through coursework that will involve presentations, posters, reports and training plans.

Future opportunities

You can progress on to a Level 2 course in a similar subject area or some go on and study new subjects. Career options include sports coaching, sports therapy, leisure management, personal training and gym instructing.

    • The Centre of Sporting Excellence (CoSE) is based on the outskirts of Kidderminster at Brinton’s Field. This is our specialist facility for sports courses in Kidderminster and the Black Country.

      The facilities include six football pitches, two rugby pitches, a ‘trophy’ pitch, a golf driving range and a strength and conditioning gym spread over 40 acres of land.

      We also have use of partner community sports facilities including local golf, boxing and rugby clubs and the playing fields are also used by Kidderminster Harriers Football Academy.

      The Centre of Sporting Excellence offers a range of Sports Academies which are designed to bridge the gap between community sports and education.

      The unique partnerships mean that students study for sport related academic courses as well as developing their sporting skills with professional, qualified and experienced coaches across all academies with the opportunity to take part in local, regional and national competitions.
