Social Care Studies - Advanced at Eccles Sixth Form College

Course description

This course is designed to cover a range of topics, providing you with the knowledge and skills required for a career or further study in the social care industry. You will benefit from your tutors having a wide range of expertise and specialisms including support workers, counsellors, safeguarding and care home managers.

Course content

This will include specialist Social Care units including

Caring for children and young people

Working in the Social Care Sector

Complementary therapies for Health and Social Care

Caring for individuals with additional needs

Introduction to counselling skills

Support work in Social Care

Social Policy for Health and Social Care

The course will be studied over 4 days a week at college and one day of placement a week each week over the two year programme.  There is a wide range of potential placement options ranging from care homes and day centres, schools (including special educational needs), food banks, charities and rehabilitation centres

Entry requirements

5 Cs at GCSE


You will be assessed throughout the year using various methods including case studies, group work, presentations, placement based tasks, practical tasks, research, assessments, an external test and written assignments

Financial information

Full time courses are free to 16-18 year olds who are EU citizens

Studying this extensive Social Care Studies qualification can lead to a wide range of potential career options, such as social worker, support worker, care assistant, counsellor, special educational needs teaching assistant, youth worker, and intervention worker
