Performing Manufacturing Operations Apprenticeship at Northampton College

Course description

This course covers a range of manufacturing processes which are common to a variety of industries and sectors and are suitable for operators engaged in a wide range of production processes. This qualification will give your business the opportunity to entice young people into the sector and avoid future skills shortage. Level 2 will suit you if you are employed in the manufacturing industry and want to improve your existing skills and broaden your understanding. You will need to complete a combination of mandatory and optional (both supporting operations and job-specific) units. Units include: - Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements (mandatory) - Receiving and checking incoming materials (supporting operations) - Making products using computer-controlled equipment (job-specific) - Carrying out inspection and testing activities (job-specific). You will also need to study Functional Skills in Maths and English if you do not hold the equivalent Employee Rights and Responsibilities Personal Learning and Thinking Skills

Course content

The candidate must be employed in a manufacturing environment undertaking activities which could include shaping, assembly, processing, forming, finishing, joining, process control and quality inspection.

Entry requirements

You must be in relevant employment to start an Apprenticeship and pass an assessment in English and maths.

Assessment

Evidence is collected in a portfolio and can include workplace observations, professional discussions, witness testimonies, oral and written questions and other evidence as appropriate to the job. Candidates will have a dedicated assessor to guide and support them through the process. Average duration is 24 months. Functional skills are assessed by examinations.
