Business Level 2 (City) at Sheffield College

Course description

This is a practical and work-related business course. You will learn all about the exciting world of business and have the opportunity to apply your learning in a practical and realistic way.

Course content

You will develop your knowledge of and gain a broad business experience in:

  • The world of business and everything that influences what businesses do
  • How businesses are organised and their aims and objectives
  • How businesses manage and organise their finances and their staff 
  • How to set up and run a business
  • Developing knowledge of the techniques retail outlets use to merchandise and sell their products
  • Selling skills
  • Creating financial documents including balance sheets

Throughout your course you will develop a wide range of skills, working practices and thought processes including IT skills, presentation skills, independent learning skills, team work and leadership skills.

You will use a range of learning methods including practical assignments, discussion, presentations and the use of computer-based virtual learning environments.

On your programme you will study Maths and English qualifications, if you do not already hold a minimum GCSE grade 4.

A range of practical activities and trips will take place to support your studies on the course.

Money

At The Sheffield College we will always do our best to support you through your studies, to make them as stress free as possible. We have a specialist support team who can give you all the advice you need on all things financial, including what might be available to you, so that you don’t go short and you can concentrate all your efforts into your studies.

Free meals

If you meet the eligibility criteria we’ll be able to support you with free meals. You’ll get an amount of money that you can use within the college shops and diners per day. This will be added to your student ID card which you will just swipe to purchase items.

Travel passes

Students (including Apprentices) of The Sheffield College who live in South Yorkshire are eligible for a 16–18 Student Pass which entitles pass holders to cheaper travel on buses and trams in South Yorkshire. Pass holders are also entitled to half fare on Northern train services in South Yorkshire.

If you are enrolled with us, you may receive support towards the cost of:

  • DBS checks needed for your course (previously known as CRB)

Future opportunities

You can progress to a Level 3 Business course (and selected specialism of either accounting, law or marketing if you wish) or an appropriate alternative. This course may also lead to employment or an apprenticeship opportunity in the business sector.

You will learn from experienced, specialised and enthusiastic business teachers with a range of academic and business work backgrounds. You will have access to up-to-date IT facilities and course resources on the college intranet which can be accessed at home.
